Planning case study

One estate. Three distinct experiences.

Located just outside Siena, Villa Catignano gave the weekend a rare planning advantage: several spaces with genuinely different personalities within the same historic estate. That allowed the celebration to evolve without asking guests to continually move between venues.

The Italian gardens held the ceremony and aperitivo. The historic courtyard became the setting for dinner. The back garden hosted the welcome pizza night and the farewell barbecue and pool party.

Arrival

Welcome without formality.

The first evening was intentionally relaxed: wood-fired pizza, local wine and time outside together. For a destination wedding, a welcome event has a practical purpose as well as a social one. It lets internationally arriving guests settle into the place and into one another's company before the wedding day carries more structure.

Using the back garden established a different mood from the spaces reserved for the ceremony and dinner.

Wedding day

Let the architecture do some of the design work.

The design direction was intentionally restrained. Villa Catignano already carries a strong visual identity, so styling supported the architecture, gardens and Tuscan landscape rather than attempting to overwrite them.

After the garden ceremony and aperitivo, guests moved into the historic courtyard. Festoon lighting, candlelight and stone architecture changed the mood naturally as daylight disappeared. The transition itself became part of the experience.

Farewell

More time together, not another production.

The final day returned to the informality of the first: a barbecue and pool party in the back garden. No new spectacle was required. The purpose was to give Georgie and Ryan more time with the people who had travelled to Tuscany to celebrate them.

A multi-day wedding works when every event has a role in the guest journey. Repetition adds duration. Purpose creates a weekend.

The strength of Villa Catignano was its versatility, but versatility only becomes useful when each space has a deliberate function. The planning architecture connected guest movement, event sequence, catering, production timing and the aesthetic progression of the weekend.
