A destination wedding designed as three distinct Italian experiences.
Matt and Zayna did not travel to Italy for a single wedding day. They wanted to create a complete destination experience: time to welcome their guests, celebrate their legal marriage and enjoy one final informal moment together before everyone returned home.
Their wedding weekend unfolded across three events. An all-white welcome party at EQUO Suites introduced guests to the landscape and atmosphere of central Italy. The wedding day at Villa Valentini Bonaparte brought together a legally recognised civil ceremony, elegant design, dinner and dancing. A relaxed pizza party completed the weekend.
The planning challenge was to make these events feel connected without making them repetitive. Each day needed its own identity, pace and emotional purpose while remaining part of one coherent story.
The Couple’s Vision

Matt and Zayna wanted their wedding to feel polished but never distant. The visual direction needed refinement, while the experience had to remain generous, welcoming and full of energy.
Their guests were travelling to Italy for more than a ceremony. The weekend was therefore structured around hospitality: opportunities to meet, reconnect, explore the setting and experience different expressions of Italian food, landscape and celebration.
Day One · The Welcome Party
An all-white evening at EQUO Suites opened the celebration.
The welcome party created a softer and more informal beginning to the weekend. The all-white dress direction gave the evening a clear visual identity while allowing the countryside setting and warm evening light to remain central.
More importantly, the event gave guests time to settle into the destination. Introductions happened naturally, travel fatigue disappeared and the group began to feel connected before the formality and emotion of the wedding day.
The Wedding Venue

Villa Valentini Bonaparte sits in Umbria, close to the Tuscan border and the historic town of Cortona. Its location makes it particularly attractive to international couples who are drawn to the visual language of Tuscany but want to explore a less predictable part of central Italy.
The villa provided the architecture and flexibility required for a complete wedding day. Ceremony, portraits, aperitivo, dinner and party could each occupy a distinctive setting without separating guests from the overall experience.
The Legal Ceremony
A civil marriage in Italy, integrated into the emotional heart of the day.
Matt and Zayna chose a legally recognised civil ceremony rather than separating the symbolic celebration from the legal marriage. This required the necessary documentation and coordination to be managed before the wedding.
On the day itself, the legal structure remained discreet. Guests experienced a personal and emotional ceremony, while the administrative work behind it had already been completed and carefully coordinated.
The Wedding Experience
A day that moved from ceremony to dinner without losing momentum.
The wedding day was organised as a gradual progression. The ceremony introduced the emotional centre of the celebration, aperitivo gave guests time to connect and explore, and dinner created the transition toward speeches, entertainment and dancing.
Each stage had its own atmosphere, but guests were never left wondering where to go or what would happen next. The structure remained largely invisible, allowing the experience to feel natural.
The Design Direction
Romantic florals, refined tables and lighting that changed the atmosphere.
The wedding design was conceived to complement the villa rather than conceal it. Florals introduced softness and movement, while the table styling maintained an elegant, contemporary rhythm.
As daylight faded, lighting became a central design element. It preserved the architectural character of the setting while creating a warmer and more immersive atmosphere for dinner and the evening celebration.
The Party
The formality of the day gave way to an unapologetic celebration.
After dinner, the atmosphere shifted decisively. The design, lighting and music created a separate environment for the party, allowing guests to move from an elegant reception into a much more energetic final chapter.
The transition was planned rather than abrupt. By the time the dance floor opened fully, guests were already emotionally connected to the celebration and ready to participate.
Day Three · The Farewell
A relaxed pizza party brought the wedding weekend to a natural close.
The final event deliberately moved away from the formality of the wedding day. A relaxed pizza party gave guests one more opportunity to spend time together, revisit the previous evening and enjoy a distinctly Italian conclusion to the weekend.
Farewell events are particularly valuable for destination weddings. They allow the celebration to end gradually rather than disappearing immediately after the party, especially when guests have travelled internationally to attend.

For Matt and Zayna, the objective was to remove uncertainty from the guest experience. Each event had clear information, a distinct dress direction and an understandable rhythm, allowing guests to concentrate on the celebration rather than the logistics behind it.
